The Institute of Ethnology and Folklore is a unique centre of folklore, ethnological, ethno-musicological and related cultural researches in the Republic of Croatia. In the Institute a Referential Centre of Intangible Culture is being developed, and, with the help of modern technology, a digital repository of decades-old collected materials in manuscript, photo, audio and video collections is being set up.
The topic of the workshop is the intangible culture with detailed explanation of its regions, ways of preservation, documenting and transmitting to younger generations. As part of the research project “Croatian Intangible Cultural Heritage, Social Identities and Values” financed by the Croatian Science Foundation, the workshop aims at connecting and informing the holders, local authorities, cultural associations and other participants interested in the promotion and use of heritage in successful sustainable development.
Associates of the Institute PhD Joško Ćaleta, PhD Ana-Marija Vukušić and PhD Tvrtko Zebec are going to talk about the implementation of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Croatian context, about the entry of the Alka of Sinj, Ojkanje, Klapa Singing and Silent Circle Dance of Dalmatian Hinterland to the list of intangible heritage of humanity. There will be talk about the need of documenting, further research, mediation and possible experts’ assistance in registering the cultural property.
The organizers of the workshop expect and recommend the participation of the holders of the mentioned traditions, leaders of cultural societies and associations, the local authorities’ representatives of the Cetina region and Dalmatian hinterland towns and villages, representatives of tourist boards, associations and businessmen who are interested to promote intangible culture through their activities.
